ABBOTT Tenor Ukulele (1936).
This is the
RAREST UKULELE that I have ever seen
, let alone offered for sale. I have seen adverts for Abbott tenor ukuleles in an old Abbott catalogue and never seen one until now - and here it is, and in amazing condition.
ABBOTT UKULELES are incredibly hard to find.
What’s more, this example is
in stunning all-original condition
and complete with it’s
original made-to-measure hard shaped case
. Checking my old Abbott catalogues, it appears to be an example of the
Abbott ‘OXFORD’ long scale tenor ukulele
. It was styled from the Gibson Tenor ukulele of the same period. Original beautiful ‘sunburst’ finish on body and neck. Straight neck and no wear to frets or to fingerboard. It looks as though it has never been played. It has a beautiful playing action and it makes a gorgeous sound. No cracks or splits whatsoever (the line on the back of the body in the top right-hand photograph is NOT a split or a crack). Etched onto the back of the body close to the heel is the signature of ‘Jack Abbott’, with 9/5/36 etched immediately beneath it. This is clear to see in real life but was very hard to photograph.

JOSÉ ALVAREZ ‘Bell’ style ‘Dulcet’ Baritone Ukulele (c.1930).
A rare example of this style of instrument from a long established Spanish firm who were well-known for making Ukuleles and other stringed instruments. The late George Formby owned a ukulele made by the same company. Bell-shaped body with spruce top, maple sides & back, and mahogany neck. Guitar style peghead. Ebony fingerboard inlaid with four mother-of-pearl position ‘diamonds’. Double bound soundhole decorated with abalone triangles. Geared tuning pegs. Body bound top and back. Straight neck & no wear to frets or to fingerboard. Plays beautifully and produces a lovely tone.
Three small cracks on back (all filled) which in no way affect the structural integrity or playability of the instrument. Priced to reflect this.
OHSC
(EXC -) £325.
