ABBOTT 5-String Banjo (c.1930). A really lovely example of a pre-war 5-string resonator banjo made by one of England’s great makers - J. G Abbott & Co. Limited, of London. Original tuning pegs (geared on the peghead but not on the neck). Scalloped bezel and ‘crown’ shaped cut-outs in the flange. Original nickel plating in excellent condition. Maker’s nameplate on perch pole and on the back of the peghead. Detachable extended resonator bound in ivoroid top and bottom around the edge. This instrument has a straight neck and has only a miniscule amount of wear to the frets and to the fingerboard, which are both in excellent condition considering their age. FENDER ‘Precision Bass’ Electric Guitar (1969). This instrument is a real treat having been owned just twice in nearly 43 years. It’s a classic 1969 model in gorgeous original ‘sunburst’, complete with all of its original parts and in really good condition for its age. It was bought by the current owner as a hire-purchase re-possession from the well known ‘Barratts’ music shop in Manchester in 1973, and the original receipt of purchase comes with the instrument. It has been loved and played ever since. This instrument has a serial number of 253999 and it comes complete with a (well-used) hard shaped case. OFFERS. Please contact me for further details. More photos to come.
GIBSON RB-4 5-String Banjo (1925). Beautiful and incredibly rare pre-war Gibson ‘Mastertone’ 5-string banjo in gorgeous original condition. Very few pre-war Gibson RB-4’s were made but they remain a huge favourite amongst banjo players, and this one comes from their first year of manufacture in 1925.
This banjo is in genuinely stunning original condition including its original Gibson 5-string neck with the ‘hearts and flowers’ inlay. Made of British Honduras mahogany with Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. Eleven inch rim. Straight neck with virtually no wear to frets or to fingerboard. Serial number 8134-2. Original tailpiece (shown in Gibson’s original catalogue photographs and used until mid-1926), original ‘hot dog’ armrest and original Grover tuning pegs (four geared ones on the peghead plus the matching fifth string peg on the neck). Original hooks and nuts, and it comes with a selection of old picks (some tortoiseshell), old bridges and strings, plus the original ‘Gibson’ tension key and mute. Banjo players who have played it have all been amazed by its condition, its playability and the superb quality of the sound that it produces.
This is the most amazing pre-war Gibson banjo that I have ever seen or will be ever likely to see again. It even comes with two original sales receipt dating from the late 1940’s; one for its purchase from a music shop in Croydon (near London), and the other for the purchase of the selection of tortoiseshell picks that were bought shortly afterwards (including a copy of the advertisement for the picks). Complete with hard shaped ‘Gibson’ case. Please note: this instrument is an ORIGINAL pre-war GIBSON 5-string Banjo and is NOT a converted tenor.
