ANNOUNCEMENT

It is with very great regret that the U.K. Ukulele Festival, due to take place in the Peter Humphreys Centre at Oswestry School on Saturday the 17th & Sunday the 18th of April 2010, has had to be postponed.

When one puts on a Festival it is always important to have a highlight for everyone to look forward to, and the main highlight of my Festival in previous years has always been the Saturday Evening Concert, at which invited guests have given fantastic performances to the delight of the highly appreciative audience.

Unfortunately, it only recently became apparent that most of the people in the pool of talent that I had asked to come and perform in the concert this year, simply couldn’t give a guarantee that they would be able to attend. This was all for very honest and understandable reasons, including such things as recent serious and on-going illness, being made unemployed in the last couple of weeks, very important family commitments close to the date of the concert and also the actual cost of coming to the Festival during these difficult economic times (from home and abroad).

This being the case, it would therefore be very unfair of me to expect a lot of people to attend the Festival only to find that the Saturday Evening Concert was a disappointment because the great players that they wanted to hear and see perform were not there. Going to such events involves a commitment of time & money, and as the founder and organiser of the U.K. Ukulele festival I am not prepared to put on a disappointing show.

By tonight (Monday 18th January) I was left with two alternatives. Either I should go ahead with the Festival as planned and risk that enough of the best players would be able to come and perform in the Saturday Evening Concert after all, or find myself in a position with a concert and very few top class players - which would be completely unacceptable. Realistically, I was left with only one course of action, which was to postpone this year’s event. Nevertheless, I will do my best to arrange another Festival at a more suitable date in the not-too-distant future. Many apologies for any inconvenience caused, and thank you all for the tremendous encouragement and support that you have given me with this Festival as with all the others.

Kindest regards to you all;

John Croft.
